About Our Agency

Permanent Sanctuary, Healing Homes

We exist to achieve permanent sanctuary and healing homes for children and families from hard places. Our story begins with experiencing firsthand a system that is broken and deciding to work to fix it. Our Executive Director, Amanda Boyd, began working in the foster care field in 2013 to address problems she encountered with the system when she became a foster mother to a sibling group of three who she and her husband later adopted.

Incorporating TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) into our training with foster parents and staff enables us to serve many more children with very challenging behaviors. The recipe for success for child placing agencies is simple: 1) recruit the right families; 2) train them well – very well; and 3) retain foster parents by supporting them throughout the duration of the placements (wraparound care). This is how to achieve the very challenging goal of placement stabilization.

We believe that with TBRI, we now have the tools to care for these children. They will need wraparound services for our foster families post-placement, including counseling that is TBRI intensive. The Sanctuary knows that every child – no matter the situation, can have the opportunity for healing and change.

Our vision is to become a model child placement agency by supporting children and families through Trust-Based Relational Intervention. From pre-licensing training to post-placement support, including our own staff of licensed counselors so that families have a one stop agency that can meet the therapy needs of the child, foster parents and families - and along with our dedicated, mission-minded staff, we can fix a broken system. We invite you to join us by becoming a donor.

CLEAR LAKE BRANCH

Our agency opened its doors on April 1, 2020, as the entire world shut its doors due to COVID-19. Through a group of generous Founding Donors, they raised the $150,000 needed to open the agency, and our first branch, Clear Lake, had 20 families ready and waiting to be trained. In the last four years, the Clear Lake branch - along with our Fort Bend branch - we have served hundreds of kids.

  • Raychel Modlin brings 4 years of case management to her role as Clear Lake Branch Manager, but as a previous foster child herself, she has a unique perspective of the foster care system and supporting children and families. Raychel has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, and a minor in criminal justice. Raychel's responsibility at The Sanctuary is to provide support to the children, families, and staff within the agency, as well as overseeing the operations of the Clear Lake office. She is so excited to work with the Sanctuary and support the Sanctuary Mission.
